Author Instructions
Proceedings
The proceedings of the conference will be published by Elsevier
Science B.V., part of which will be a special issue of Nuclear Instruments
and Methods in Physics Research, Section A. Invited and contributed
papers accepted by the Conference Program Committee and presented at
the conference by one of the authors are eligible for publication. Very
short papers in the form of extended abstracts cannot be accepted for
publication.
The proceedings will consist of two parts:
Refereeed Papers: (Part 1) comprising the invited talks and a selection of contributed
papers, which will also appear as a special typeset issue of NIM-A. There
will be a limit of 4 pages per paper.
Non-Refereed Papers: (Part 2) will contain contributed papers in camera-ready form with
the same page size. Two pages are allowed for each non-reviewed
paper.
Both parts will be mailed to all participants.
Authors have a choice of specifying if they prefer their paper to
appear in Part 1 or 2 of the proceedings. The Guidelines for Publication of the
Proceedings describe the rules according to which manuscripts can
be published in the reviewed or the non-reviewed section of the
Proceedings. Status of experiments and progress reports without new,
significant results are generally expected to appear in Part 2 of the
Proceedings.
All papers submitted for publication in Part 1 of the proceedings
must satisfy the NIM-A publication criteria. They will be refereed by
the members of the International Program Committee. Camera-ready
papers submitted for publication in Part 2 of the Proceedings will be
published with only minimal review.
Time Schedule
Manuscripts and camera-ready papers must be submitted by August 18,
2000 at the Conference Site. Manuscripts received later will not be
considered for inclusion in the Proceedings.
Referee's comments will be made available to the authors by October
1, 2000.
Revised manuscripts must be received by October 29, 2000 in order to
be published in the Proceedings.
Since the time between the conference and the publication of the
proceedings is about 9 months, it is planned to make all papers, as
submitted by the authors (i.e. not refereed), accessible via the
internet. A postscript or pdf version of the papers is necessary for
this process. The submission procedure will be described together with
the instructions for the preparation of manuscripts and camera-ready
papers.
Note: Questions concerning papers should be sent to the e-mail
address fel2000@fel.duke.edu.
Paper Submissions
In order to facilitate the processing of papers as they are received by
the Program Committee, authors should include a title sheet with their
paper containing the following information:
- Title of Paper
- Author Name(s)
- Author Affiliation(s)
- Requested Proceedings (Refereed or Non-Refereed)
- Unique Session ID (e.g. MO-9-99)
- Classification Codes (PACS-1999)
- Keywords (up to six)
- Corresponding Author Information
- Full Name (Last, First M.I.)
- Postal Address
- Email Address
- Telephone and Fax Numbers
Submissions on disk are mandatory for non-refereed papers and requested
for refereed papers. Use a labeled 3.5 inch floppy. Include computer
hardware platform, version of software which produced source, source
(LaTeX or MS Word), and a postscript or PDF version of the paper.
Manuscript preparation for the Refereed Part of the Proceedings
For the manuscript to fulfill the requirements for a refereed paper as
presented by the Publications Subcommittee:
-
Manuscripts (the original and 2 copies) should be written in good
English. They should be typed throughout with double line spacing and
wide margins on numbered, single column pages. Authors are
encouraged to submit a postscript or pdf version of their paper on floppy disk at
the time of submission.
-
The title page(s) should contain the article title, author(s) names
and affiliations, the text of related footnotes and the text of the
abstract. The author to whom the proofs should be sent must be
indicated with her/his full postal address, telephone number, fax
number and/or e-mail address. One to four classification codes (PACS-1999) and up to six keywords of the author's
choice should be given below the abstract.
-
Tables should be typed on separate sheets at the end of the manuscript.
In addition to its serial number, each table should have a
sufficiently detailed caption to explain the data displayed in it.
-
Figures should be numbered and their captions listed together at the
end of the manuscript.
-
References in the text to other publications should be numbered
consecutively within square brackets and listed together at the end of
the text.
-
Formulae in the manuscript should be clearly written or typed with
particular consideration given to characters that maybe
misinterpreted.
-
Illustrations:
-
The publisher requires a set of good quality line figures and original
photographs to produce the printed figures.
-
Line drawings should be original laser printer or plotter output or
drawn in black India ink, with careful lettering, large enough to
remain legible after reduction for printing.
-
Photographs should be originals, with somewhat more contrast than is
required in the printed version. They should be unmounted. The top
of the photograph should be marked on the rear side in pencil if necessary.
-
Color figures can be printed in color when they are judged by the
Editor to be essential to the presentation. The authors will bear the
extra costs involved. If an author wishes to include colored pages in
his/her contribution, the special cost for reproduction of color pages
is as follows: Dfl.1400,-- for the first colored page, Dfl.700,-- per
colored page thereafter (excluding VAT). These costs will be borne by
the Authors(s) of a contribution containing one or more colored pages.
After acceptance
Page proofs are sent out to authors in order to check that no
undetected errors have arisen in the typesetting or file conversion
process. At the proof stage only printer's errors may be corrected. No
changes in, or additions to, the edited manuscript will be accepted.
Copyright transfer
In the course of the production process the
authors will be asked to transfer the copyright of the article to the
publisher. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination
of information.
Electronic manuscripts
The final accepted manuscript must be submitted on disk, along with
a paper-printed version which is identical to the file. Please label
the disk with your name, and mention which word processor you have
used.
You should supply a disk containing the electronic version of the
manuscript together with the hard copies of the text and figures. It is
the responsibility of the authors to ensure that the version on disk
exactly matches the hard copies. No deviations from the version
accepted for publication are permissible without the prior and
explicit approval by the Editor.
LaTeX files of papers that have been accepted for publication may be
sent to the Publisher by e-mail or on a diskette . If the file is
suitable, proofs will be produced without re-keying the text. The
article should be encoded in ESP-LaTeX, standard LaTeX, or AMS-LaTeX
(in document style "article").
LaTeX class files, style files, and instructions in dvi, ps and pdf
format are available from the publisher at http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/latex.
For users of MS-Word, a template and instructions are available from ftp://ftp.elsevier.nl/pub/word/.
Further information
After acceptance of an article any correspondence should be addressed
to:

NIMA, Issue Management Physics and Materials Science,
P.O. Box 103,

Manuscript preparation of the Non-Refereed
part of the proceedings
Format manuscripts
For the non-refereed part, 2 copies of the paper are required as well
as a disk containing a postscript or PDF version, plus the source
LaTeX or Word file. In case of a word file, the figures should be given
separately in addition to the figures included in the text.
The Camera-Ready Copy (CRC) should be prepared in a two-column format.
LaTeX users can find detailed instructions and the necessary style
files for 2-column CRC articles from the publisher at http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/latex. Users of
MS Word can download this zip archive which
contains a template (fel2000.dot) and instructions (readme.txt).
Electronic manuscripts
A disk containing the electronic version of the manuscript should be
submitted together with the hard copies of the text with figures
integrated in the text. It is the responsibility of the authors to
ensure that the version on disk exactly matches the hard copies.
Please label the disk with your name, and mention which word processor
you have used.
