Electrostatic Accelerator FEL has been used primarily for spectroscopy of semiconductor materials and devices in the Tera Hertz regime. We have identified users interest in additional applications of this wavelength regime, primarily material processing and bio-medical effects and atmospheric studies.

Applications of material processing include sintering of ceramic layers (including High Temperature Super Conductors - HTSC) and surface treatment of metals, ceramics and polymers. These applications will take advantage of the intended high average power of the source (> 1kW). Spectroscopical studies of materials (HTSC) and gases and studies of non-thermal interaction effects of radiation with biological tissues will take advantage of the wide range tuneability (70-130GHz), spectral purity (Dn/n< 10-5) and flexible optical pulse structure. Atmospheric studies include remote sensing of clouds, aerosols, particles and gases, wireless communication and energy transmission and mm wave imaging. This will require development of an antenna and transmission system.
