FEL Conference:
Experimental and Theoretical contributions are being requested in following areas of interest:
FEL Workshop:
The 7th FEL Users Workshop will be held August 16-18, 2000 in conjunction with the FEL 2000 Conference in Durham, North Carolina. The overlap between the Workshop and the Conference will allow FEL users and FEL developers to interact and to define future trends and development of FEL facilities. Presentations should focus on application research and experimental techniques relevant to the utilization of FELs. Issues common for the user and FEL communities will be the subject of a joint session.
Contributions in following areas of applications are being requested:
The regular registration fee covers both the Workshop and the Conference. A joint Conference and Workshop banquet will be held on Thursday, August 17th.
FEL Prize:
Nominations are sought for the annual FEL prize. The FEL prize is given each year to the person who has contributed the most to the advancement of the field. The prize winner will be chosen from nominees by the FEL prize committee. Please send or e-mail your nominations to the chair of the FEL prize committee:

Contributions for the Conference and the Workshop:
A submission form for abstracts is provided at http://www.fel.duke.edu/fel2000/submissions/.
Abstracts must be limited to a maximum of 200 words of pure ASCII text. The receipt of the complete abstract will be acknowledged to the author by e-mail. Authors have a choice of specifying if they prefer their paper to appear in a refereed part of proceedings. It is our intent to publish the refereed part of proceedings in special issue of Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A. Authors are advised to read the guideline for publication of proceedings which will be posted to the FEL 2000 website in the near future.
Abstracts must be received by May 15, 2000. Acceptance for the program will be acknowledged by June 16, 2000 together with the confirmation for oral or poster presentation. Abstracts will be available on the FEL 2000 website and the abstract books will be distributed to the participants upon the registration at Duke. Questions concerning the abstracts should be sent to fel2000@fel.duke.edu.

Regular Participants: The fee for regular participants (including both the Conference and the Workshop) for registration received with payment prior to July 1, 2000 is $425 USD. An e-mail acknowledgment will be sent upon receipt of Registration Form and Payment. The registration fee for payment received after July 1, 2000 is $500 USD. The fee includes access to all conference and workshop sessions, opening reception, materials, badge, book of abstracts, coffee breaks, the Conference and Workshop Banquet, the tour of the Duke Free Electron Laser Laboratory, and a copy of the Conference Proceedings.
Workshop Only Participants: There is an option for participants who wish to participate only in the Workshop. Their registration fee for payments received prior to July 1, 2000 is $325 USD, and is $400 USD if received after July 1, 2000. The fee covers access to all workshop sessions, workshop materials, badge, coffee breaks, the Conference and Workshop Banquet, and the tour to the Duke Free Electron Laser Laboratory.
Students: There is a limited amount of financial support for students. To be considered, a letter from the student's advisor must be received before May 15, 2000. Letters can be mailed to the FEL Conference Committee at the Duke FEL Lab, or e-mailed to fel2000@fel.duke.edu. The regular fee for approved students is $150 USD for payments received prior to July 1, 2000 and $200 USD for payments received after July 1, 2000.
Companion Registration: Companion names should be included on the Registration Form in order to have a name badge. The fee for accompanying person planning to attend the Conference and Workshop Banquet is $85 USD. The fee should be included with the registration.
Cancellation Policy:
Cancellation prior to July 1, 2000: a 25% cancellation fee will apply. Cancellation on or after July 1, 2000: a 50% cancellation fee will apply. All refunds will be made after the end of the conference.
Payment:
We will be able to accept payments by personal checks or bank checks in US dollars as well as by major credit cards. For details please see http://www.fel.duke.edu/fel2000/registration/.
Registration Forms should be filled out, and faxed or mailed depending on the form of payment.
Any payments received at the registration desk of the conference must be in cash in US dollars.
Housing:
A block of rooms has been set aside for participants of the Conference and the Workshop for August 12 to August 18, 2000 at the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club (see http://www.washingtondukeinn.com for information). The Washington Duke Inn is located on the Duke University West Campus and is within walking distance from the Duke Free Electron Laser Laboratory. A special flat room rate for single or double occupancy of US$125 per night (plus 11% tax) is available for the participants of the conference. Please refer to the Group ID 1625 while reserving rooms with the Washington Duke Inn. The deadline for hotel reservation is July 12, 2000. We can not guarantee this rate and availability after the deadline. Please use the Hotel Reservation Form for reservations. Participants are responsible for making their own lodging arrangements. All reservations must be made directly with the hotels.
Transportation:
By Airline: The Raleigh-Durham (RDU) International Airport is 15 miles from the Washington Duke Inn. The next closest airport is located in Greensboro, NC and is about 63 miles from Durham. Regular taxi service is available from RDU airport to the Inn for approximately $28. The Washington Duke Inn has a relationship with WW Shuttle Service for guests. This service charges $24 per person for transportation between RDU and the Inn. The number for WW Shuttle is 919-210-5949.
We have reached an agreement on discount airfares with Continental Airlines (Meeting Works) for participants of the FEL 2000 Conference. Use the Z-code ZVQ7 and Reference Number IRYCS5 when reserving tickets with Continental Airlines (Meeting Works).
By Rail: Durham is served by Amtrak from most major cities on the East coast with daily service.
By Automobile: Durham is easily accessible from Interstate 85 and Interstate 40.
Durham has a very limited public transportation system. We strongly recommend that you rent a car if you need to be flexible with transportation during, before and after the conference.
Insurance:
FEL 2000 cannot accept liability for injuries or losses sustained from accidents or other occurrences that may arise in connection with the conference/workshop. We recommend that participants subscribe to appropriate travel and health insurance.
Social Events:
There will be a welcome reception on Sunday, August 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Terrace on the Green and the Duke University Room of the Washington Duke Inn.
Banquet: The conference/workshop banquet will be held on Thursday evening, August 17 after a tour of the Duke FEL Laboratory.
Tours: The conference/workshop schedule includes a tour of the Duke Free Electron Laser Laboratory. Visitors will be able to see the Mark III IR FEL, the OK-4/Duke storage ring UV FEL, the High Intensity Gamma Ray Facility (HIGS) and user facilities in the FEL building and in the two story KECK Life Science Building.
Additional events and programs for traveling companions are being planned. Information will be posted to the website.
